founding story

Derby Club is proudly brought to you by 307 Horse Racing. In 2021, 307 Horse Racing became a member of 307 First, an organization dedicated to investing in Wyoming-based businesses and fostering local growth. Together, 307 Horse Racing and 307 First developed a strategic plan to revitalize a key Wyoming industry centered around horses and horse racing.

Historic Horse Racing was legalized in Wyoming in 2013. Recognizing that the full potential of this opportunity had not been realized for the benefit of the agricultural community, the state, and its localities, 307 Horse Racing was founded in 2019 to strengthen Wyoming’s economic foundation.

Since its establishment, 307 Horse Racing has experienced significant growth, generating positive economic impacts, including job creation, expanded economic activity, and increased opportunities for horseracing. 307 Horse Racing is proud to be part of 307 First's mission to invest in Wyoming businesses and enhance the state's economic base.

MILESTONES

307 Horse Racing is rapidly establishing itself as a force in Wyoming.

  • What have we accomplished?

    • 307 Horse Racing founded in 2019

    • Licensed by the Wyoming Gaming Commission in November of 2020.

    • 307 Horse Racing teams up with 307 First in March 2021.

    • Ran our FIRST live race meet in May and June of 2021 with purse money totaling around $865,000

    • 307 Horse Racing spent over $600,000 in additional labor, insurance, rent, advertising and marketing, track improvements and other associated costs to put on the 2021 live race meet. This included $150,000 of capital improvements to the county owned race track itself.

    • Thus, between 307 Horse Racing purse money and expenses, we spent over $1,300,000 to put on the 2021 live race meet.

    • We ran our first live race meet with NO OTB locations generating revenue and therefore all money was strictly out of pocket, this shows 307 Horse Racing’s great commitment to live racing in Wyoming.

    • Branded the OTB locations “Derby Club”

    • Opened our FIRST OTB location in Gillette, WY September 23, 2021

    • Opened our SECOND OTB location in Sheridan, WY January 24, 2022

    • Opened our THIRD OTB location in Casper, WY March 12, 2022

    • Opened our FOURTH OTB location in Rawlins, WY May 20, 2022

    • Ran our SECOND live race meet in May and June of 2022 with purse money totaling around $990,000

    • 307 Horse Racing again spent over $600,000 in additional labor, insurance, rent, advertising and marketing, track improvements and other associated costs to put on the 2022 live race meet. Thus, between 307 Horse Racing purse money and expenses, we spent over $1,400,000 to put on the 2022 live race meet.

    • WE RAN THE FIRST $100,000 WY BRED HORSE RACE SINCE HHR WAS LEGALIZED IN WYOMING!!! THAT’S OVER $100,000 FOR ONE RACE, AND WE WERE THE FIRST COMPANY TO DO IT!!!

    • We ran Indian Relay Races in conjunction with the horse races over Memorial Day Weekend and will continue to do this every year. Purse Money over $10,000 for this event.

    • We offered a Bronc Match June 4, 2022, in conjunction with the races, also over $10,000 in prize money for this event, we also plan to have this every year.

    • Opened our FIFTH OTB location in Cheyenne, WY July 22, 2022

    • Opened our SIXTH OTB location in Casper, WY October 3, 2022

    • We opened our sixth location within 2 weeks of a calendar year of opening the first one, unbelievable…

    • We are adding roughly $45,000/month to State of Wyoming Budget

    • We are adding roughly $45,000/month to LSRA (Legislative Stabilization Reserve Account)

    • We are adding roughly $175,000/month to Local Government Budgets

    • We are adding roughly $70,000/month to Wyoming Breeders Award Fund

    • We employ approximately 175 Full and Part Time Employees.

    • In 2023 307 HR continues to bring in additional events (Indian Relay, Bronc Match with two new events – Chariot Races & Derby Dog Dash)

    • JUNE 25TH, 307 HR PAID OUT LARGEST SINGLE DAY PURSE DISTRIBUTION IN THE STATE OF WYOMING IN THE AMOUNT OF $342,500

    • Total purse distribution for 2023 with 4 cancelled race days was roughly $1,200,000.00.

    • Purses were still distributed to horsemen on two of the four cancelled race days for a total of roughly $91,500.00. This is new ground for the racing community in the area!
